November 20, 1700 Great Northern War: King Carl XII of Sweden leads his army to defeat the army of Russian Tsar Peter the Great at the Battle of Narva

The Great Northern War (1700-1721), also known as the Second Northern War, was a war between Russia and Sweden to seize access to the Baltic Sea. As a result of the war, Russia dominated the Baltic Sea from now on, while Sweden declined from the list of European powers.
