On May 27, 1943, the French National Council of Resistance was established
Eighty-two years ago today, on May 27, 1943 (April 24, 1943), the French National Council of Resistance was established. In June 1940, when France surrendered in World War II, Charles de Gaulle, the former Minister of Defense and Army, issued a "Message to the French People" in London, calling on the people to fight for the maintenance of France's freedom and independence, thus founding the "Free France" movement. De Gaulle established his own armed forces and established his own rule in the French colonies of Syria and Lebanon, as well as in Cameroon and Congo in Africa. The "Free France" army participated in the battle in North Africa, and its pilots also participated in the air battle to defend Britain. The "Free France" movement became a flag of resistance overseas. At the same time, various resistance groups have emerged in the country to fight against German fascism. The French Communist Party organized the "Free Shooters" guerrillas in the country in 1941, and also initiated the establishment of the "National Military Council". In order to unite the resistance movement at home and abroad, De Gaulle sent representatives back to the country. In 1942, the Socialist Party expressed its support for De Gaulle. In January 1943, the French Communist Party representatives went to London to establish contact with De Gaulle; in April, the Radical Socialist Party also expressed its support for De Gaulle. On May 27, 1943, the French Communist Party, the Socialist Party, the Radical Socialist Party, and other six political parties and eight resistance organizations jointly formed the National Resistance Committee in the country. Jean-Moulins, the representative sent by De Gaulle to the country, served as the first chairperson. In March 1944, the armed forces of the various resistance groups in the country united into a unified interior army. After the Allied landing in 1944, the interior army reached 500,000. The domestic resistance movement actively cooperated with the Allied military operations and contributed to the defeat of Germany and the liberation of French territory.
