On this day, 38 years ago, on December 23, 1987 (November 3, 1987 in the lunar calendar), Beijing International Telecommunications Bureau was opened. On December 23, 1987, the Beijing International Telecommunication Bureau, a key national construction project, passed the national acceptance today and was officially put into use. Acting Premier of the State Council Li Peng attended the opening ceremony and cut the colors. Beijing International Telecommunications Bureau is currently a modern exclusive entrance and exit bureau for international calls and user calls in China. The bureau is located on the Sanyuan overpass at the intersection of East Ring North Road of the Capital Airport. The main building has 3 floors underground and 13 floors above ground, with a total construction area of 15,000 square meters. Its final installed capacity is 2000 international telephone lines and 12,000 international telex lines. It uses tangible and intangible circuits such as satellites in the sky, microwaves in the sky, and cables underground to weave a modern communication network that closely connects the four directions of the motherland and reaches all parts of the world. With the completion and opening of Beijing International Telecommunications Bureau, direct dial phones can reach 19 countries and regions such as Japan, Hong Kong, the United States, Italy, and France, where business is busy. Semi-automatic phones can reach all parts of the world; international telex can directly reach 30 countries and regions. The completion and opening of Beijing International Telecommunications Bureau has not only improved my country's international communications business level and import and export capabilities, greatly alleviated the tension in international communications in the capital, but also created conditions for the future development of international and domestic long-distance communications in my country.
