On July 24, 1886, China and Britain signed the "Myanmar Clause", and the Qing government was forced to recognize the British occupation of Myanmar. After the Sino-French War, in order to compete with France's power in southwest China, Britain sent troops to capture King Xibao of Myanmar in November 1885 on the pretext of the case of the King of Myanmar fined the British Wood Merchants Company. On New Year's Day the following year, it sent a note to the Qing government, announcing that Upper Myanmar would be merged into India.
