Thirty-one years ago today, on October 7, 1994 (September 3, 1994 in the lunar calendar), the Burmese drug lord Yang Maoxian was arrested in Yunnan. On October 7, 1994, a huge drug trafficking case involving collusion between domestic and foreign drug traffickers was concluded by the people's court. With the approval of the Supreme People's Court, the Burmese drug lord Yang Maoxian was executed in Lincang County, Yunnan Province for drug smuggling. According to a person from the Supreme People's Court, Yang Maoxian, 48, is a native of Kokang County, Myanmar. From July 1990 to January 1994, Yang Maoxian and a group of drug traffickers colluded with drug traffickers in our country, and smuggled 211,993 grams of heroin into our country's Yunnan on 9 occasions, of which Yang Maoxian personally smuggled 42,593 grams. In early 1994, the public security organs of Kunming City and Lincang District in Yunnan Province seized several consecutive cases of drug trafficking, and obtained conclusive evidence that Yang Maoxian smuggled a large amount of drugs into our country. After the first-instance judgment, Yang Maoxian refused to accept it and appealed. The Higher People's Court of Yunnan Province formed a collegial panel to hear the case in accordance with the law, and held that Yang Maoxian's criminal facts of drug smuggling were clear and the evidence was conclusive.
