The meeting decided to resume the college entrance examination, which had been suspended for 10 years. In the winter of 1977, 5.70 million candidates entered the examination room they had been looking forward to for many years. In the summer of 1978, another 5.90 million candidates took the exam, and there were 11.60 million candidates in the two seasons. In the winter and summer, more than 401,000 college students were enrolled, which is only 1/29 of the reference number. The resumption of the college entrance examination is a major event in Chinese education and even Chinese history. The restoration of the college entrance examination has improved the quality of higher education and put China's talent training back on a normal and healthy track.
