Feng Baiju is also known as Yu Qiu and Ji Zhou. Founder of Qiongya Revolutionary Armed Forces and Base Area. Born in 1903, from Qiongshan, Hainan. Joined the Communist Party of China in September 1926. After 1927, he served successively as Secretary of the Qiongshan County Party Committee, Secretary of the Chengmai County Party Committee, and Secretary of the Qiongya Special Committee of the Communist Party of China. He participated in the Qiongya Uprising and led the establishment of the 1st Independent Division of the Qiongya Workers and Peasants Red Army (later renamed the 2nd Independent Division). After losing contact with the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and the Guangdong Provincial Party Committee, he led his troops to persist in the arduous armed struggle. After the outbreak of the Anti-Japanese War, in December 1938, the Qiongya Workers and Peasants 'Red Army was reorganized into the 14th District Independent Team of the People's Anti-Japanese Self-Defense Corps of the Guangdong Province, and he served as the captain. In February 1939, the Japanese army invaded Hainan Island. He commanded the battle to block the Japanese army at Tankou, Qiongshan County, and fired the first shot of the Qiongya Anti-Japanese War. Soon, the troops were expanded into the Qiongya Anti-Japanese Guerrilla Independent Corps of Guangdong Province, serving as the commander. He led his troops to carry out independent anti-Japanese guerrilla warfare behind enemy lines, and won victories in the ambush battles of Luoliu Bridge and Luobanpu in Qiongshan, the attack on Changlin Bridge in Haikou, and the siege battle of Naga. In September 1940, he served as Secretary of the Qiongya Special Committee of the Communist Party of China and Chief of the Independent Corps and Political Commissar. In February 1941, he served as chairman of the Qiongya Military Commission of the Communist Party of China. In the autumn of 1944, he served as commander and political commissar of the Qiongya People's Anti-Japanese Guerrilla Independent Column. During the War of Liberation, he served as Secretary of the Qiongya District Committee of the Communist Party of China, Chairman of the Qiongya Provisional People's Government, Commander and Political Commissar of the Qiongya Column of the People's Liberation Army. He led the Hainan military and civilians to persist in the revolutionary war for 23 years and was known as "a flag of the Qiongya people." After the founding of the People's Republic of China, he served successively as First Secretary of the Hainan District Committee of the Communist Party of China, Commander and Political Commissar of the Hainan Military Region, Director of the Hainan Administrative Office, Secretary of the Secretariat of the Guangdong Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of China, and Vice Governors of Guangdong Province and Zhejiang Province. In 1955, he was awarded the First Class Eighth Medal, the First Class Independence Medal and the First Class Liberation Medal. He died in Beijing on July 19, 1973. In 1983, the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China made a decision to rehabilitate and restore reputation.
