100 years ago today, on August 8, 1925 (June 19, 1925 in the lunar calendar), 40,000 Ku Klux Klan members held a demonstration in the United States. A horrific march of unmasked "devils" walked through the Capitol in an orderly manner like soldiers. On August 8, 1925, more than 40,000 powerful Ku Klux Klan members marched on the streets of the U.S. capital. This is the largest ever. There were more than 200,000 witnesses, many of whom were horrified by the scale of the demonstrations. Although the Ku Klux Klan members wore burqas, this time they did not have masks with hoods, and they usually had to hide their true colors. By the time the last marchers arrived at the theater at the foot of the Washington Monument, it was dark and heavy rain began, and plans for a large-scale ceremony had to be cancelled. Cold weather caused the Ku Klux Klan to delay plans to burn 80-foot crosses in Virginia.
