On this day, 74 years ago, August 15, 1951 (July 13, 1951, the lunar calendar), Zhou Enlai reiterated China's sovereignty over Nansha. On August 15, 1951, Foreign Minister Zhou Enlai issued the "Statement on the Draft US-UK Peace Treaty with Japan and the San Francisco Conference," solemnly pointing out: China's inviolable sovereignty over the Nansha Islands and the Paracel Islands will not be affected in any way regardless of whether the draft US-UK peace treaty with Japan is stipulated or not. The four islands of Dongsha, Xisha, Zhongsha and Nansha have always been China's territory. China's historical records and previous relevant foreign representations have fully proved this fact. During the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression, the Nansha Islands and others were occupied by Japan. It was not until Japan surrendered in 1945 that all these islands were returned to China. In 1950, the United States and Britain attempted to erase China's sovereignty over these islands in the so-called "Peace Treaty with Japan" clause. In the 1950s, neighboring countries also expressed interest in the Nansha Islands several times. In this regard, the China government has repeatedly stated that the Nansha Islands have historically been part of China's territory and that China has indisputable legal sovereignty over these islands.
