On this day, 31 years ago, December 6, 1994 (November 4, 1994 in the lunar calendar), North Korea and the United States established liaison offices. On December 6, 1994, official delegations from the United States and North Korea held talks in Washington for the first time on establishing diplomatic liaison offices in each other's capitals. The North Korean delegation led by Park Si-seok and the U.S. delegation led by Turk concluded a day of talks after seven hours of discussions. The head of the North Korean delegation told reporters when leaving the venue that the specific time for opening the liaison office was not yet known."Negotiations on relevant issues will continue for three or four days. The U.S. State Department stressed that the establishment of liaison offices must be carried out only after consular and other technical issues have been fully resolved.
