On October 24, 2008 (September 26, 2008 lunar calendar), the 7th Asia-Europe Summit was held in Beijing. On the spot of the meeting, the 7th Asia-Europe Summit was held in Beijing, China from October 24 to 25, 2008. It was the first gathering of leaders of 45 member countries after the second round of enlargement of the Asia-Europe Meeting. The theme of the summit is "Dialogue and Cooperation, Mutual Benefit and Win-Win". The participating leaders will have in-depth discussions in the three fields of politics, economy and social culture, including issues related to sustainable development. The meeting will be dedicated to expanding and deepening equal dialogue and mutually beneficial cooperation between Asia and Europe, creating a win-win situation and benefiting the people of the two continents. Premier Wen Jiabao's Speech to ASEM Member States When ASEM was established, its members included 7 ASEAN member states, China, Japan, South Korea, 15 European Union member states and the European Union Commission. In 2004, ASEM achieved its first round of expansion, with 3 new members of ASEAN and 7 new members of the European Union joining. In 2006, the 6th ASEM Summit agreed to admit 6 new members from Mongolia, India, Pakistan, ASEAN Secretariat, Bulgaria and Romania, and the second round of ASEM expansion was achieved. At this point, the membership of ASEM has increased to 45: China, Japan, South Korea, Mongolia, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, Philippines, Singapore, Brunei, Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, Myanmar, ASEAN Secretariat, India, Pakistan, Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, United Kingdom, Hungary, Poland, Czech Republic, Slovenia, Slovakia, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Malta, Cyprus, Romania, Bulgaria and the European Union Commission.
