French mathematician Galois, founder of group theory, dies

Galois was a French mathematician and the creator of group theory. He was born in La Reinburg on October 25, 1811 and died in Paris on May 31, 1832. Galois was interested in mathematics in middle school and published his first paper at the age of 18.

Galois began to study equation theory early and proposed the theory of groups. However, the papers he submitted to the Academy of Sciences many times were greatly affected by the death of the reviewer, Fourier, and the failure to receive a fair evaluation from Poasson.

Galois was actively involved in political activities, leading to two arrests in 1831, and died in a duel shortly after his release at the age of 21.

Group theory proposed by Galois in solving the problem of radical solutions to algebraic equations opened up a new world in algebra, directly affected the revolution of algebraic research methods, and had a profound impact on the development of modern mathematics.
