On November 18, 1983, China strongly protested against the US resolution on "Taiwan's future"
Forty-two years ago today, on November 18, 1983 (October 14, 1983), our country strongly protested against the US resolution on "Taiwan's future". On November 18, 1983, Assistant Foreign Minister Zhu Qizhen of our country summoned the US Ambassador to China Heng An-shek to make a strong protest on behalf of the Chinese government against the US Senate Foreign Affairs Committee's adoption of a so-called resolution on "Taiwan's future" on November 15, and submitted a protest note to him: On November 15, the US Senate Foreign Affairs Committee passed a so-called resolution on "Taiwan's future". "The future of Taiwan shall be settled peacefully and without coercion; in a manner acceptable to the people of Taiwan and in accordance with the laws passed by Congress and the Communiqué reached between the United States and the People's Republic of China," the case asserted. The action of the US Senate Foreign Relations Committee is a deliberate violation of China's sovereignty and a blatant interference in China's internal affairs, which has aroused great indignation among the Chinese people. In response, the Chinese government lodged a strong protest with the US government. As early as March 1983, the Chinese government made solemn representations on the so-called "Taiwan's future" proposal put forward by the US Senate and House of Representatives. Eight months later, when Sino-US relations had just improved, the US Senate Foreign Affairs Committee reopened the case and passed it. This cannot but make people doubt the attitude of the US government towards improving Sino-US relations. Taiwan is an inalienable part of China's territory. How to resolve the Taiwan issue and realize the reunification of the motherland is purely China's internal affairs, and no foreign country has the right to interfere. The US Senate Foreign Affairs Committee made reckless comments on the future of a part of China's territory, and even passed the so-called resolution, which wantonly tramples on the norms of international relations and is a manifestation of hegemony. The essence of this resolution is to use the so-called "self-determination" of the Taiwan people to try to permanently separate Taiwan from China. This is fundamentally incompatible with the principles stated in the previous communiques between China and the United States. The resolution states that the settlement of the Taiwan issue must comply with the laws passed by the US Congress, that is to say, it must comply with the Taiwan Relations Act, which seriously violates the principles of the communique on the establishment of diplomatic relations This is even more absurd. It will only create new obstacles to bilateral relations and bring greater damage to Sino-US relations. The Chinese government strongly demands that the US government take immediate and effective measures to prevent further development of the situation.
