On August 6, 1940, the three Baltic states joined the Soviet Union
On this day, 85 years ago, August 6, 1940 (July 3, 1940 in the lunar calendar), the three Baltic States joined the Soviet Union. After the outbreak of World War II, the Soviet Union issued ultimatum to Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia in June 1940, demanding that the three countries immediately stop anti-Soviet activities, establish a new government friendly to the Soviet Union, and allow Soviet troops to enter the area. On July 14 and 15, the three Baltic states announced the establishment of a Soviet government and requested to join the Soviet Union. From August 3 to 6, 1940, the Seventh Session of the Supreme Soviet of the Soviet Union adopted a resolution accepting the accession of Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia to the Soviet Union. Comments: Did Moldova and the three Baltic countries join the Soviet Union voluntarily or forcibly? Forced annexation!
