British naturalist Huxley's birthday

The English naturalist Huxley (1825-1895) was born in London on July 26, 1825. He received only two years of primary education. After that, he studied the Dharma, German, Italian, Latin, Greek and other languages, read widely and studied hard. He served in the British Navy. He was a member of the Royal Society and many other societies, president of the British Association for the Advancement of Science, and served as the head of many schools.

Huxley published more than 150 scientific papers, not only on zoology and paleontology, but also on geology, anthropology, and botany. He was particularly famous for his work on marine animals, pointing out that the inner and outer layers of the body wall of coelenterate are equivalent to the inner and outer germ layers of higher animals. Huxley was an active proponent of Darwin's theory. He vigorously promoted the theory of evolution, fought fiercely against the religious forces of the time, and further developed Darwin's ideas. He was one of the first scholars to raise the question of human origin. In 1893, at the age of 68, he was invited by a friend to give a famous lecture at Oxford University, entitled "Evolution and Ethics", which mainly dealt with the fundamental problem of mutual stimulation, mutual restriction and interdependence between the natural forces of the cosmic process in evolution and the artificial forces in the ethical process. For the scientific explanation of biogenesis and biological evolution, Biddalvin's "Origin of Species" has taken a big step forward.

Yan Fu (1853-1921), a modern Chinese Enlightenment thinker and translator, translated some of Huxley's works, called "Evolution of Heaven", which called on people to save the nation and survive with the viewpoint of "natural selection, survival of the fittest", which had a great influence on the ideological world at that time.
