Lipsch was born November 20, 1894 in Munich, Germany, and died in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, USA in 1976. He studied at the Berlin Technical High School and Heidelberg University. Lippe is well known for his research and development of tailless delta-wing aircraft, producing 84 unconventional and 29 conventional designs between 1921 and 1945 alone. In the 1930s, a series of tailless research aircraft were designed at the German Gliding Research Institute (DFS), the most famous of which was the DFS-194. He worked at Messerschmitt in 1939 and was the main designer of the world's first practical rocket aircraft, Me-163. In 1943, he served as director of the Institute of Aeronautics in Vienna, Austria, and began basic research on supersonic aircraft. He went to the United States after World War II and participated in the development of the XF-92 delta-wing research aircraft and the F-102, the first practical delta-wing fighter, at Convair Company, playing a major role in aerodynamic design. Lipisch has won the Li Lindahl Award and the Diesel Gold Award. A. Lipisch is the main designer of the world's first practical rocket aircraft, the Me-163.
