On this day, 27 years ago, on June 11, 1998 (May 17, 1998, the first mainland-Hong Kong joint-venture railway: the Jinjin-Wenzhou Railway was fully opened. The Jinjin-Wenzhou Railway in autumn, China's first local railway jointly invested by the mainland and Hong Kong, the Jin-Wenzhou Railway is fully open to traffic, with a total length of 251 kilometers. The Jinjin-Wenzhou Railway is my country's first railway jointly built by the local government, the Ministry of Railways and Hong Kong enterprises. It starts in Xindongxiao, Jinhua, passes through Wuyi, Yongkang, Jinyun, Lishui, Qingtian and other places, and ends in Longwan, Wenzhou. It has a total length of 251.5 kilometers and a total investment of nearly 3 billion yuan. This railway is the "steel dragon" that the people of southwestern Zhejiang have been looking forward to for nearly a century. The dream started with Sun Yat-sen's "Strategy for Founding a Country". In 1915, the Zhejiang Governor's Office reported to the Beiyang Warlord Government, requesting the construction of a railway, and conducted line selection surveys and project estimates. But in old China, building the Jinjin-Wenzhou Railway could only be an extravagant hope. After the founding of New China, the construction of the Jinjin-Wenzhou Railway was once again put on the agenda. Especially after the reform and opening up, the leaders of the provincial party committee and the provincial government have always been enthusiastic about the construction of the Jinjin-Wenzhou Railway. On 8, 1990, the Standing Committee of the Provincial Party Committee specifically studied the construction of the Jinjin-Wenzhou Railway and regarded it as an important strategic measure for Zhejiang to expand opening up to the outside world. In 1992, Wenzhou people, who were at the forefront of the trend, boldly proposed new ideas: mobilizing social forces, drawing on the experience of Sino-foreign joint ventures and overseas fundraising methods to build a Sino-foreign joint venture Jinjin-Wenzhou Railway, which was recognized and supported by provincial leaders. On 18, 1992, the groundbreaking ceremony of the Jinjin-Wenzhou Railway was held in Jinyun, Zhejiang. Since then, this "steel dragon" has been extended southward step by step: in 1995, the Jinjin section was paved; in 1996, the Jinli section was paved; in 1997, the Liqing section was paved; and the Jinjin-Wenzhou Railway was paved five months ahead of schedule. On June 11, 1998, the entire Jinjin-Wenzhou Railway was opened to traffic. The completion and opening of the Jinjin-Wenzhou Railway has filled the gap in the 100,000-square-kilometer railway network from the east of the Zhejiang-Jiangxi Railway to the coast, and opened up a channel from the interior to the coast in East China.
