Seventy-five years ago today, on June 30, 1950 (May 16, 1950), the Land Reform Law was promulgated and came into effect. The Land Reform Law was supported by the peasants. On June 30, 1950, the Central People's Government promulgated the Land Reform Law of the People's Republic of China, declaring that throughout the country "the feudal land ownership system exploited by the landlord class will be abolished, and the land ownership system of the peasants will be implemented, so as to liberate the rural productive forces, develop agricultural production, and open the way for the industrialization of New China." Beginning in the winter of the same year, land reform campaigns were carried out in the newly liberated areas one after another. By 1952, with the exception of Taiwan Province and some areas inhabited by ethnic minorities, land reform had basically ended throughout the country, allowing farmers 300 million landless or landless to share about 700 million mu of land and other means of production.
