On August 11, 1945, my country first used the name "People's Liberation Army"
Eighty years ago today, on August 11, 1945 (July 4, 1945, the lunar calendar), my country used the name "People's Liberation Army" for the first time. In mid-August 1945, at the most critical moment of the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression, Commander-in-Chief Zhu De issued seven orders, ordering the troops in the Jiefang District to move forward quickly, collect the Japanese and puppet troops, and carry out a full-scale counterattack. On August 11, in the No. 4 counterattack order issued by Zhu De, the name "People's Liberation Army" was proposed for the first time. The predecessor of the China People's Liberation Army was the China Workers and Peasants Red Army. After the failure of the Great Revolution in 1927, the Communist Party of China continued to hold high the banner of anti-imperialism and anti-feudalism and led the people to oppose armed counter-revolution with armed revolution. After the Nanchang Uprising and the Autumn Harvest Uprising, the first Workers and Peasants Revolutionary Army was established. On May 25, 1928, the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China issued the "Military Work Outline", stipulating that the army built in separatist areas should be officially named the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Army, and the title of the Workers 'and Peasants' Revolutionary Army should be cancelled. From then on, the revolutionary armed forces in various revolutionary base areas have been renamed the "China Workers and Peasants Red Army." After the outbreak of the Anti-Japanese War, the Communist Party of China reorganized the main force of the Red Army into the 8th Route Army of the National Revolutionary Army (the Eighth Route Army) in accordance with an agreement reached with the Kuomintang. Zhu De was appointed Commander-in-Chief of the Eighth Route Army and Peng Dehuai was appointed Deputy Commander-in-Chief (later renamed Commander-in-Chief and Deputy Commander-in-Chief). On October 2,1937, the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China reorganized the Red Army guerrillas in 13 areas of Hunan, Jiangxi, Fujian, Guangdong, Zhejiang, Hubei, Henan and Anhui provinces into the new Fourth Army of the Sixth Army of the National Revolutionary Army, referred to as the New Fourth Army, and appointed Ye Ting as commander and Xiang Ying as deputy commander. After the September 18th Incident, the people of Northeast China rose up against Japan at the call of the Communist Party of China and organized anti-Japanese armed forces such as the Anti-Japanese Guerrillas, the Northeast People's Revolutionary Army, and the Anti-Japanese Volunteers. By the end of 1934, the Manchu Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of China had reorganized these anti-Japanese armed forces into 11 armies, and in February 1936 formed the Northeast Anti-Japanese Alliance. After the victory of the Anti-Japanese War, the Northeast Anti-Japanese Alliance Army merged with the Eighth Route Army and the New Fourth Army that advanced into the Northeast to form the Northeast Democratic Alliance. After Commander-in-Chief Zhu De issued the counterattack order, the Eighth Route Army, the New Fourth Army, and the Northeast Democratic Alliance Army successively changed their names to the People's Liberation Army. After the Central Military Commission issued a general order on November 1, 1948, all units of the entire army were renamed the People's Liberation Army of China. The general order clearly stipulates that all units above the regiment and subdivisions must be marked with the words "China People's Liberation Army."
