On this day, 37 years ago, on December 2, 1988 (October 24, 1988, the lunar calendar), China team members set the record for the shortest time to climb Vincennes Peak in the Antarctic. On December 2, 1988, the Sino-US Joint Mountaineering Scientific Expedition reported that China mountaineers Li Zhixin and Wang Yongfeng successfully climbed the highest peak in the Antarctic-Vincent Peak in the early morning of Beijing time. The main peak of Vincennes Peak is 5140 meters above sea level. Although it is the warm season now, the temperature is often minus 40 degrees Celsius, and there are strong winds from time to time. Its difficulty to reach the summit is comparable to Mount Everest. Li Zhixin, deputy captain of the mountaineering team, and Wang Yongfeng, another China team member, set out from Camp No. 3 and continued to move towards the main peak after conquering the second peak. They climbed to the top of Vincent Peak at 3:30 a.m. and 6:08 a.m. on December 2, Beijing time respectively. It only took Li Zhixin 7 hours and 02 minutes to reach the peak from Camp No. 3, setting a record for climbing this peak in the shortest time. The scientific expedition team for the climbing of Vincennes Peak in Antarctica, composed of China and the United States, has a total of six members. The captain, Mike Tang of the United States, and two other American team members also climbed to the top on December 2, but failed. The next day, the team's Canadian guide successfully reached the top. Another Chinese team member, Jin Qingmin, was an associate researcher at the Nanjing Institute of Geology and Mineral Resources. He was 49 years old and a mother of three children. Although she did not reach the summit, she obtained scientific research results in the area of Vincennes Peak and discovered a large iron ore.
