Breaking-News >> TodayHistory October 27, 1940 Yan 'an established Xinhua Radio Station
On this day, 85 years ago, on October 27, 1940 (September 27, 1940 in the lunar calendar), Yan 'an established Xinhua Radio Station. In October 1940, Yan 'an began to build Xinhua Radio Station. The basic equipment of the radio station was brought back by Zhou Enlai from the Soviet Union. While Zhou Enlai went to the Soviet Union for treatment after a fall on horseback, he negotiated with the Soviet government and obtained a language transmitter with a power of 10 kilowatts. After Zhou recovered from his injury, he personally escorted the machine back home. Passing through Xinjiang, I encountered many obstacles on the way, which turned the danger into a safe place and made the machine safely transported back to Yan 'an. The radio station was named "Xinhua" in line with Xinhua News Agency and jointly became the political voice of the Communist Party. Its call sign is CXR, where C refers to the first letter of "China" in English, the key is the first letter of "Xinhua" in English, and R is the first letter of "Radio" in English. The builders of the radio station dug a three-story and three-row cave on the hillside on the south bank of the river. On the first floor, two large-area stone caves were dug out using rocks more than 30 meters high on the ground. The stone cave dwellings can not only protect against Japanese air strikes, but also prevent enemy spies from destroying them from the ground. These two stone kilns, one serves as a power supply workshop and the other serves as a broadcast room. The generator in the power workshop is driven by a car engine, and the fuel used for the engine is carbon monoxide supplied by a charcoal stove. In the center of the radio room is the 10-kilowatt language transmitter brought back by Zhou Enlai. On the left side of the kiln door, there is a 500-watt text broadcast transmitter, which was made by the Third Bureau of the Central Military Commission of the Communist Party of China. It is through this machine that Xinhua Agency transmits domestic and international telecommunications. After repeated research and finally submitted to the Third Bureau of the Military Commission for approval, the radio station decided on a formal broadcast plan. Xinhua Radio Station broadcasts three times a week, each broadcast in the afternoon and evening of that day, and broadcasts in Mandarin and Japanese at the same time. While broadcasting in language, Xinhua News Agency telecommunications are broadcast to countries around the world using international codes.
