On this day 77 years ago, on May 17, 1948 (April 9, 1948 lunar calendar), the Battle of Linfen ended. PLA bombers attacked and blasted the fortifications on the city wall of Linfen on May 17, 1948. During the 71-day battle in Linfen, the troops of the Taiyue and Jinsui Military Regions of the People's Liberation Army 25,000 people, captured Liang Peihuang, deputy commander of the Sixth Army and commander-in-chief of Jinnan, and controlled the whole territory of Jinnan. On the morning of March 7, 1948, the PLA advanced to the vicinity of the airport in the south of Linfen City and destroyed two transport aircraft, forcing 8 planes to fail to take off with people. Subsequently, other participating troops attacked the outlying strongholds of the city, and 3,000 Kuomintang troops were destroyed on the 29th. On April 11, the People's Liberation Army captured Dongguan and annihilated the 66th Division of the defenders. At about 19 o'clock today, the Eighth and Thirteenth Columns and the Taiyue Military Region launched a general attack on the defenders in the city. At night, most of the defenders were annihilated. Liang Peihuang led his troops out of the West Gate and crossed the Fen River, and was immediately annihilated. The guard troops monitored the remnant of the brave and tenacious "Linfen Brigade" of the Jinsui Military Region of the Communist Party of China at Linfen Station for inspection after the war
