On June 16, 1998, the staff of an information network in Shanghai found that the network was attacked by uninvited guests during routine inspection. On July 13, the alleged offender Yang was arrested. This is the first computer hacking incident in our country. After investigation, the hacker broke into 8 servers in the network and deciphered the accounts and passwords of most of the network staff and more than 500 legitimate users, including the accounts and passwords of super users on the two servers. The 22-year-old Yang is a direct graduate student majoring in computational mathematics at a well-known university mathematics institute in China. He holds the national computer software senior programmer qualification certificate and has considerable computer technology skills. It is said that his history of computer crime can be traced back to 1996. At that time, Yang used the campus network of a university to attack a technology network and succeeded. Since then, Yang has taken advantage of the opportunity to work for a computer company to enter an information network in Shanghai. During this time, he has used it illegally for more than 2,000 hours, causing direct losses to the network as high as 16,000 yuan. It is reported that Yang was arrested on the charge of "destroying computer information systems".
