On May 31, 1931, my country's first domestically produced car was born
On this day, 94 years ago, on May 31, 1931 (April 15, 1931, the first domestically produced Minsheng Model 75 truck finally came out. On May 31, 1931, the first domestically produced car-the Minsheng Model 75 truck was finally released. Except for a few parts of this car, such as the engine crankshaft, which were entrusted to foreign manufacturers to manufacture according to the factory's drawings, the rest of the parts were made by the factory. In order to celebrate the advent of the first domestically produced car, Liaoning Mortar Factory held a grand celebration meeting. According to domestic road conditions and actual conditions, Minsheng Factory plans to manufacture two types of trucks. One is Model 75 with a carrying capacity of about two tons and is suitable for urban use; the other is Model 100 with a carrying capacity of about 3 tons and is suitable for use in areas with poor road conditions. According to the plan, a Type 75 truck will be trial-produced first. During the trial production process, he also exchanged information with foreign automobile companies such as Ford, General Motors, IWC, and Stiebeck. After the introduction of the Minsheng brand car, it aroused great repercussions in China. To commemorate the 10th anniversary of the founding of the Association, the All-China Road Construction Association held a road market exhibition in Shanghai, and strongly requested that the first domestically produced car be displayed to add color to the exhibition and win glory for the country. Factory director Li Yichun decided to send someone to attend the meeting and send the car, various car parts, as well as various charts to Shanghai. In December 1928, the Northeast changed its flag and the north and south became peaceful. The suggestion put forward by Li Yichun, director of the Fengtian Mortar Factory, that "trucks should be first manufactured in response to domestic needs" was praised by General Zhang Xueliang, so the Fengtian Mortar Factory was changed into Liaoning Mortar Factory and attached to the Civil Products Industrial Manufacturing Office, mainly producing daily necessities, automobile interior materials and various leather. In February 1929, General Zhang Xueliang allocated more than 40,000 yuan (old coins) from the Liaoning Mortar Factory to Minsheng Factory as a test fee for materials used in developing automobiles. Subsequently, another 700,000 yuan was allocated as the trial production and production expenses of domestic vehicles. In order to speed up the development work, Minsheng Factory hired American technician Myers as the chief engineer, and hired technicians graduated from universities and junior colleges at home and abroad to hold important positions in the factory. At that time, Minsheng Factory had a total of 207 employees, including 30 employees and 177 workers. Minsheng Factory began the development of domestic automobiles in May 1929. Under very simple equipment and technical conditions, after more than two years, by June 1931, China's first Minsheng 75 2.5-ton domestic truck was finally trial-produced. To this end, Shenyang Mortar Factory held a grand celebration meeting. In July of the same year, the car was invited to be sent to Shanghai for the exhibition, and an additional 15 cars were prepared to be produced as a tribute to the "Double Ten Festival". Later, the Japanese army launched the "September 18th" Incident and the assembly was not completed. Photos and historical materials from Shanghai's Road Monthly in October 1931 and Shanghai's Republic of China Daily on August 13 of the same year roughly recorded the basic process of trial production of domestically produced cars by Minsheng Factory. It is reported that in August 1929, after completing basic preparations, Minsheng Factory purchased parts of the Ruilei truck from the United States in accordance with General Zhang Xueliang's instructions that trucks were urgently needed transportation tools at that time, and transported them back to the factory. Assembly the whole vehicle by itself and conduct a large number of tests. Then the entire vehicle of the Ruilei was disassembled, important and vulnerable parts were selected, and they were designed and remanufactured separately. Through the disassembly, disassembly, mapping and testing of the car, we have initially mastered the car design and manufacturing technology. According to Minsheng Factory's automobile manufacturing plan, two types of trucks were originally scheduled to be trial-produced and produced, one type 55 with a load of 2 tons, and the other type 100 with a load of 3 tons. Later, based on the needs of urban and rural transportation, it was determined to be Type 75 with a 2.5-ton truck. The Minsheng Model 75 truck was designed by itself. Automobile parts such as engines, rear axles, electrical devices and tires were temporarily entrusted to foreign professional factories to process according to the drawings designed by Minsheng Factory because the equipment technology and raw materials could not be solved in China at that time and were in fact difficult to make themselves. In addition, Minsheng brand auto parts are designed and manufactured by the factory itself. The Minsheng brand car is long-haired, brown, uses a six-cylinder water-cooled gasoline engine, 65 horsepower, front and rear wheel spacing of 4.7 meters, the front and rear four wheels are single, and the top speed is 40 kilometers per hour. The self-designed cushioned rear axle also has its own characteristics. The water tank is divided into four parts. Even if one is damaged, the car will still run as usual. On September 19, 1931, Fengtian's Shengjing Daily recorded that "the project of making 40 domestically produced cars by Minsheng Factory will be completed... exquisite in style and extremely light. However, due to the "September 18th" Incident, all the parts of the Minsheng Factory that had not been assembled into cars were looted by the Japanese invaders, and General Zhang Xueliang's ambition to establish a national automobile industry was completely abandoned and destroyed in ruins. In March 1934, in accordance with the will of the Japanese Kwantung Army, the Ministry of Industry of the Puppet Manchuria established Tonghe Automatic Vehicle Industry Co., Ltd. on the former site of the Liaoning Mortar Factory. The purpose of the company was to adapt to the needs of expansion and aggression and engage in car repair and assembly. Except for the original vehicle parts used for the engine, rear axle, electrical equipment, tires, etc., the factory has redesigned and manufactured other parts. At that time, someone did statistics: among the 666 parts in the entire vehicle, 464 were homemade and 202 were imported) mainly engines, electrical parts, precision gears, bearings, etc.), and the "localization" rate was as high as 70%. It is quite difficult to achieve this level under the extremely low level of the domestic machinery industry. The Minsheng brand car aroused great repercussions in China. It participated in the Shanghai City Exhibition hosted by the National Road Association of China on September 12, 1931. It was placed in the center of the exhibition hall, and the front bumper read in both Chinese and English: "The ability to drive rough roads after heavy loads is extremely strong, and the speed on smooth roads increases. "It also includes a wall chart of the main parts, as well as a list of homemade and purchased parts. Large photos of Zhang Xueliang and Li Yichun hung face to face in the exhibition hall. Chiang Kai-shek sent Zhang Qun as a representative to participate in the exhibition. Wang Zhengyan, then Foreign Minister, Kong Xiangxi, Minister of Industry, and others also personally attended the exhibition to congratulate them. Just as China was happy to have their own cars, six days after the Minsheng brand cars were displayed in Shanghai, Japan believed that it had launched the "September 18th" Incident in northeastern China and occupied Shenyang. The Minsheng Automobile Factory was also occupied by the Japanese army. The first batch of cars and parts that were about to be completed were all towed away by the Japanese army. The 46 gasoline engines ordered from the United States and shipped to Niuzhuang (now Yingkou City) had to be transferred to Tianjin. The fledgling China's national automobile manufacturing industry was thus strangled. When the news reached the Shanghai exhibition, the public was furious and immediately held a car parade. More than 300 cars marched on the streets of Shanghai to protest against Japan's occupation of Northeast China. The representative of Liaoning put a black veil on Minsheng Automobile, and used a light bulb on the front of the car to spell out four shiny characters: "Domestic car!" Minsheng Factory once had a plan to mass produce cars. Every year, it would produce 100 Model 75 Minsheng vehicles with a load of 2 tons and 65 horsepower, and 50 Model 100 Minsheng vehicles with a load of 3 tons and 85 horsepower. When the first car was successfully trial-produced in May 1931, the factory had already prepared about 50 parts, and the first batch of 15 cars were planned to serve as a tribute to the "Double Ten Festival". However, all semi-finished products fell into the hands of the Japanese army, and only one Minsheng car in Shanghai was spared the catastrophe.
