33 years ago today, on November 21, 1992 (October 27, 1992 lunar calendar), the former President of Laos, Kaysan Fung Vihan, passed away. Kaysan Fung Vihan (1920-1992), former President of Laos and former Chairperson of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party. Born in Nassai Village, Shaokang Taburi County, Savannakhet, his father was Vietnamese. He studied in Vietnam since childhood and studied at the Law School of Hanoi University. In 1942, he participated in the anti-French and anti-Japanese student movements. In 1946, he joined the Communist Party of Indochina and became one of the leaders of the anti-French movement of the elderly overseas Chinese in Vietnam. In 1947, he was the leader of the resistance movement in Northeast Laos. In 1949, he organized the "Rashavon" People's Armed Forces. In 1950, he served as the Minister of Defense of the Anti-Japanese War Government. In 1953, he served as the In 1955, he was elected general secretary of the Lao People's Party (later known as the Lao People's Revolutionary Party) and served as the commander-in-chief of the Lao People's Liberation Army. In 1958, he was elected member of the National Assembly. In October 1959, he was elected vice chairperson of the Central Committee of the Lao Patriotic Front. In 1972, he was elected general secretary of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party. In 1982, he was re-elected and served as a member of the Political Bureau and secretary of the Central Secretariat. In December 1975, the Lao People's Democratic Republic was established and he served as the prime minister of the government. In August 1982, the cabinet was renamed the Council of Ministers and served as the chairperson. In March 1991, he was elected chairperson of the People's Revolutionary Party. In August 1991, he was elected president of the state and died in office on November 21, 1992. Good
