Thirty years ago today, on September 13, 1995 (August 19, 1995 lunar calendar), the "863" Pacific scientific expedition returned to Beijing. The national "863 plan" Pacific scientific expedition returned to Beijing from the evening of the 13th in fresh flowers and applause. The scientific expedition team set off in mid-July this year. After nearly two months of struggling with wind and waves, resisting dizziness in the heat, overcoming various difficulties in sea tests, and with the joint efforts of dozens of experts, the test task of the "Ocean Floor Exploration System", a major scientific research of the "863 plan", was successfully completed. The ocean floor detection system is made of a variety of special materials, with underwater communication, high pressure sealing, various signal acquisition, autonomous navigation control and power supply capabilities, which cannot be replaced by other detection equipment at present. At present, only a few countries in the world have the ability to develop such the world's most advanced ocean floor exploration equipment. This test shows that our country's ocean floor exploration system has the above capabilities and can detect 97% of the world's ocean area except trenches in detail. The United Nations has approved our country to explore the ocean floor polymetallic nodule resources in the exclusive development area of 150,000 square kilometers. During this test, our country's scientific expedition team used advanced ocean floor detection technology to collect some information. The results of this test exceeded the original target of the "863 plan" by more than 10 times, and reached the target of completion by the year 2000. This shows that our country has strong technical means and has taken a big step forward in developing marine resources in the 21st century. Many scientific and technological personnel, especially young and middle-aged scientific and technological personnel, participated in the development of this system. It was also rare for two female scientific and technological workers to participate in this expedition.
