Twenty-eight years ago today, on July 29, 1997 (June 25, 1997 lunar calendar), China's first agricultural demonstration zone was established. On July 29, 1997, China's first agricultural demonstration zone "Yangling Agricultural High-tech Industry Demonstration Zone" was established. Yangling is located in the middle of Shaanxi Guanzhong Plain, 82 kilometers east of Xi'an City and 86 kilometers west of Baoji, covering an area of 94 square kilometers. It has the jurisdiction of Yangling District at the county level. The total population is 160,000, and the urban population is 80,000. In July 1997, the State Council approved the formal establishment of Yangling Agricultural High-tech Industry Demonstration Zone, which was included in the management of the National High-tech Zone, with a planned area of 22.12 square kilometers. Yangling is the birthplace of Chinese farming civilization. As early as 4,000 years ago, Houji, the earliest agricultural official in our country's history, "taught the people to harvest and arboriculture grains" in this area, creating a precedent for our country's agricultural civilization. In 1934, Mr. Yu Youren, a veteran of the 1911 Revolution, established the first agricultural college in Northwest China - the National Northwest Agriculture and Forestry College, which is now the predecessor of Northwest Agriculture and Forestry University. In the following decades, especially after the founding of New China, the state and Shaanxi Province have successively built a number of agricultural, forestry and water science and education units here. By the time the demonstration zone was established in 1997, there were 10 agricultural science and education units, including two universities, five research institutes, and three technical secondary schools. In less than 4 square kilometers, nearly 5,000 scientific and educational personnel from 70 disciplines, including agriculture, forestry and water, have gathered, and are known as China's "Agricultural Science City".
