The Battle of Pingxingguan ended on September 30, 1937
On this day 88 years ago, on September 30, 1937 (August 26, 1937 in the lunar calendar), the Battle of Pingxingguan ended. On September 30, 1937, the Battle of Pingxingguan ended. In mid-September 1937, after the Japanese invading China advancing westward along Pingsui Road occupied Datong, they divided their troops into two routes to attack Yanmen Pass and Pingxingguan in an attempt to advance into Taiyuan. In order to cooperate with the friendly forces and block the Japanese offensive, the 115th Division of the Eighth Route Army, under the command of Division Commander Lin Biao and Deputy Division Commander Nie Rongzhen, was ordered to arrive at the Pingxingguan area to gather and stand by. On September 23, the 115th Division dispatched an independent regiment and cavalry battalion to the area between Lingqiu - Laiyuan - Guangling to suppress and attack the Japanese reinforcements at Pingxingguan. On the 24th and night, three regiments of troops were ambushed in the mountains on both sides of the Northeast Highway of Pingxingguan in the rain, waiting for the enemy to invade. At 7 o'clock on the 25th, the follow-up troops of the 21st Brigade of the Japanese 5th Division (Itagaki Division) all entered the ambush area. The pre-ambush troops of the Eighth Route Army were condescending and quickly launched a fierce attack on the enemy, which immediately disrupted the Japanese command system. The vehicles of the enemy collided with each other, turned upside down, and became a mess. At this time, our soldiers bravely rushed to the road, divided and encircled the enemy, and the two sides launched a hand-to-hand battle of short-handed white-blade combat. After a day of fierce fighting, the Eighth Route Army won the Battle of Pingxingguan. In the Battle of Pingxingguan, the Eighth Route Army killed more than 1,000 Japanese troops, destroyed more than 100 cars, more than 200 carriages, captured more than 1,000 rifles, more than 20 machine guns, 1 artillery, and a large number of military supplies, achieving the first major victory of the Chinese army since the beginning of the National Anti-Japanese War. The victory of Pingxingguan was the first successful ambush by the Eighth Route Army to concentrate a large number of troops on the Japanese army. Under the situation that the Japanese army was marching in and the Kuomintang army was retreating, the Eighth Route Army won the first battle, which effectively dealt a blow to the madness of the Japanese army and broke the myth that the Japanese army was invincible, thus greatly inspiring the hearts and morale of the whole country, and enabling the people of the whole country to see the hope of the Chinese nation. Comment: Japanese devils are not invincible!
