Breaking-News >> TodayHistory Famous German mathematician Riemann passed away
Riemann
On September 17, 1826, Riemann was born in the village of Bresselenz in northern Germany. His father was a poor pastor in a rural village. He started school at the age of six, entered pre-university studies at the age of 14, and at the age of 19, according to his father's wishes, entered the University of Göttingen to study philosophy and theology, so that he could become a priest in the future.
Due to his love of mathematics since childhood, Riemann studied philosophy and theology while also attending some mathematics classes. At that time, the University of Göttingen was one of the centers of mathematics in the world, and some famous mathematicians such as Gauss, Weber, and Steele taught there. Riemann was influenced by the atmosphere of mathematics teaching and mathematical research here, and decided to give up theology and specialize in mathematics.
In 1847, Riemann transferred to the University of Berlin and became a student of Jacobi, Dilikele, Steiner, and Eisenstein. In 1849, he returned to the University of Göttingen to pursue a doctorate and became a student of Gauss in his later years.
In 1851, Riemann received a doctorate in mathematics; in 1854, he was appointed as a supernumerary lecturer at the University of Göttingen; in 1857, he was promoted to associate professor; and in 1859, he was appointed professor after the death of Dirichlet.
Due to years of poverty and exhaustion, Riemann began to suffer from pleurisy and tuberculosis less than a month after his marriage in 1862, and spent most of the next four years in Italy. He died in Italy on July 20, 1866, at the age of 39.
Riemann is one of the most original mathematicians in the history of mathematics in the world. Riemann's works are few, but they are extremely profound and rich in concept creation and imagination. Riemann made many groundbreaking and creative works for many fields of mathematics in his short life, and established great achievements for world mathematics.
Riemann influenced the development of mathematics in the second half of the 19th century. Keywords: July 20, 1866, Riemann, mathematician, Germany News raw data sources → https://today.help.bj.cn/show/?id=15364 17WorldNews[2025.09.27-12:59] 访问:69
