Comrade Yang Chengzhong is one of the pioneers in atomic energy scientific research in my country. He graduated from the Physics Department of Nanjing Central University in his early years and went to the UK to study in 1945. He received a doctorate from the University of Liverpool in the UK and stayed there to teach. In 1951, he gave up the generous treatment and good working conditions of the UK and resolutely returned to China to participate in the construction of the motherland. He successively served as an associate researcher at the Institute of Modern Physics, China Academy of Sciences (now the Institute of High Energy Physics) and deputy director and director of the Lanzhou Institute of Modern Physics.
