89 years ago today, on October 9, 1936 (August 24, 1936 in the lunar calendar), the three main forces of the Red Army met. In the summer of 1934, the Red Army in the Central Soviet Area's fifth counter-" encirclement and suppression "under the guidance of Wang Ming's passive defense policy, repeated defeats, huge consumption of military, civilian and material resources, shrinking base areas, crushing the enemy's" encirclement and suppression "in the interior has been very difficult. The Communist Party of China was forced to lead the Red Army of Workers and Peasants to leave the original base areas and conduct a 25,000-mile Long March that shocked the world. The Red Army's Long March was set off in six batches from five regions. The first batch consisted of the Red Seventh Army, which formed an advance team to resist the Japanese in the north. In July 1934, it advanced from the central revolutionary base areas to the northeast of Jiangxi. The following groups were: the Sixth Red Army, which left the Hunan-Jiangxi base area in August 1934; the Central Red Army (the Red Front), which left the Central Revolutionary Base Area in October of the same year; the Red 25th Army, which left the Hubei-Henan-Anhui base area in November of the same year; the Fourth Red Front, which left the Sichuan-Shaanxi base area in March 1935; and the Second and Sixth Red Army Corps, which left the Hunan-Hubei-Sichuan-Guizhou base area in November of the same year. Initially, the Red Army was still under the wrong leadership of Wang Ming's left-leaning adventurism, and the Long March went very poorly and suffered great losses. In January 1935, the Red Army captured Zunyi, the second largest city in Guizhou, and held a Zunyi Conference there. This conference established Comrade Mao Zedong's leadership in the Red Army and the Party Central Committee. At that time, there were only 30,000 of the Red Front Army left, and Chiang Kai-shek dispatched hundreds of thousands of troops to pursue and intercept. The Red Army broke the enemy's siege, crossed the Chishui River, crossed the Jinsha River skillfully, attacked Anshunchang, climbed snow-capped mountains, crossed grasslands, and fought against all kinds of unimaginable and dangerous natural conditions. Finally, in October 1935, the Red Front successfully reached the northern Shaanxi base area. The following year, in addition to developing the northern Shaanxi base area, the Red Front Army also carried out eastern and western expeditions. In August 1936, the Fourth Front Army and the Second Front Army arrived in the southern part of Gansu. The Party Central Committee and the Central Military Commission decided to quickly realize the meeting of the three main forces of the Red Army while the enemy had not yet been fully concentrated and deployed. To this end, the Party instructed the Second and Fourth Front Armies to quickly move northward; on the other hand, it organized the First Front Army to advance southward in left and right columns to respond. On October 9, 1936, the First, Second and Fourth Front Armies of the Red Army met in Huining, Gansu Province, marking the complete victory of the Red Army's Long March. During this two-year desperate battle, the Red Army passed through 11 provinces including Fujian, Jiangxi, Guangdong, Hunan, Guangxi, Guizhou, Sichuan, Yunnan, Xikang, Gansu and Shaanxi, and passed through Han, Miao, Zhuang, Yi, Hui, Tibet and other ethnic regions with a population of more than 200 million.
