On December 24, 1992, the bidding contract for the manufacture of five hydro-generator units at the Lijiaxia Hydropower Station, the largest in the upper reaches of the Yellow River, was officially signed. At this point, the "system engineering" of power station construction has been fully launched. Lijiaxia Hydropower Station is another large-scale hydropower station built in the upper reaches of the Yellow River after the Longyangxia Hydropower Station. It is a national key project during the Eighth Five-Year Plan. It was invested by the state and funded by the four provinces and regions of Qinghai, Gansu, Shaanxi and Ningxia. The power station has a total designed installed capacity of 2 million kilowatts, with a total of 5 units and a single unit capacity of 400,000 kilowatts. It was the largest single unit capacity of the power station under construction in China at that time.
