The founder of Taekwondo was also one of the founders of the Korean army, and the contemporary calligrapher was also a patriotic democrat who opposed the authoritarian government. Although he was not tall in stature, he had a tenacious will and lofty beliefs, and contributed his all to the popularization of Taekwondo. Now, General Choi Hong-hee leads the International Taekwondo Federation, which has more than 120 member countries and regions around the world. In early 2002, he went to Pyongyang for surgery due to stomach cancer. Shortly after the stomach cancer surgery, Cui Hongxi flew from Pyongyang to Canada in April of that year, despite the repeated discouragement of the doctor, and then from Canada to the United States to participate in the American Taekwondo academic seminar. He personally presided over the meeting in a wheelchair and with a hanging needle. This was the most memorable and touching scene at the meeting, and it was also the last time people saw General Cui Hongxi in public. The general died two months later. Before his death, he hoped to write only the words "Taekwondo" on his coffin, and his last words were also very brief - "Before leaving this world, people who can do what they want to do are the happiest!" On June 15, 2002, the founder of Taekwondo, the great General Cui Hongxi, died of terminal stomach cancer at the age of 84. Times are constantly changing, and as it changes, Taekwondo will continue to develop and extend. But the fighting spirit of Taekwondo left by General Cui Hongxi to future generations will never change!
