As of November 12, 722 people died in the earthquake-stricken areas, 2,225 were seriously injured, 539 were slightly injured, and 2.50 million were affected. More than 300,000 houses collapsed in the earthquake; more than 500,000 households and more than 2.5 million people were affected by the earthquake, of which more than 200,000 households and more than 1 million were severely affected; 720,000 mu of farmland was destroyed; the area affected by crops 350,000 mu, and the food loss reached more than 300 million catties. In addition, more than 1,300 schools, 98 hospitals and clinics were damaged; 17 reservoirs were damaged to varying degrees; transportation, post and telecommunications, and communication in the earthquake-stricken areas were all interrupted for a time. All economic losses are equivalent to more than 1 billion yuan. After in-depth analysis by the earthquake department of Yunnan Province, it is confirmed that the epicentres of the two strong earthquakes in southwestern Yunnan Province were at the junction of Lancang County and Lincang County and Gengma County in Simao area, with a magnitude of 7.6 and 7.2 respectively. The two strong earthquakes were destructive and spread widely, causing serious losses to local people's lives and property.
