Forty-one years ago today, on October 31, 1984 (October 8, 1984 in the lunar calendar), the first battle of "Strike Hard" achieved remarkable results. On October 31, 1984, the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China approved the "Report on the Summary of the First Battle and the Deployment of the Second Battle of Severely Cracking Down on Serious Criminal Activities" by the Central Political and Legal Commission. The "Report" said that the practice of the past year has proved that in the case of unstable social security, it is not only necessary to take measures such as organizing campaigns, taking unified actions, and concentrating strikes to punish serious criminal offenders in accordance with the law, but also very effective. It has solved problems that we have wanted to solve for many years but have not been able to solve, and has accumulated experience for creating a new political and legal situation and striving for a fundamental improvement in social security. In the First Campaign, public security organs across the country arrested 1,027,000 criminals for homicide, arson, robbery, rape, and hooliganism. Prosecutors prosecuted 975,000 people. Courts sentenced 861,000 people, including 24,000 who were sentenced to death. Judicial administrative departments accepted 687,000 labor reform prisoners and 169,000 labor reeducation personnel. This was the largest concentrated crackdown since the 1950 anti-town movement. The actual effect of this struggle has far exceeded the scope of social security. It has had a positive impact on the transformation of party style and social atmosphere, and on the construction of material and spiritual civilization.
