On the 5th, Hu Hanmin, acting Grand Marshal of the National Government, ordered the removal of Yang and Liu Ben from their posts and ordered all armies to go all out to fight the rebellion. On the 6th, he ordered the Huangpu Military Academy student army who was on the Eastern Expedition to return to quell the chaos. On the 10th, the student army arrived in the suburbs of Guangzhou. At the same time, the Communist Party of China and the leftists of the Kuomintang jointly launched the workers 'and peasants' movements and the student movements in Guangzhou to support and cooperate in suppressing the chaos. A general attack was launched on the 11th. The battle lasted only a day and a half. On the 12th, it entered Guangzhou and wiped out more than 20,000 Yang and Liu rebels. Yang and Liu fled into the Shamian Concession and then both fled to Hong Kong.
