On July 12, 1913, Sun Yat-sen launched an army to attack Yuan Shikai and launched the "Second Revolution"
112 years ago today, on July 12, 1913 (June 9, 1913 in the lunar calendar), Sun Yat-sen launched a crusade against Yuan Shikai and launched the "second revolution". Li Liejun, the commander-in-chief of the army in Jiangxi Province who initiated the "second revolution", "the second revolution" took place after Song Jiaoren was assassinated by Yuan Shikai. This was a revolutionary struggle launched by Sun Yat-sen in an attempt to recover the failure of the 1911 Revolution, with the aim of overthrowing Yuan Shikai and restoring the leadership of the bourgeois revolutionaries. On March 20, 1913, Yuan Shikai ordered the assassination of Song Jiaoren, the leader of the Kuomintang who was keen on parliamentary democracy. In order to cover up the truth of the crime, Yuan Shikai also pretended to punish the murderer severely. But the investigation results showed that Yuan Shikai was the mastermind of the murder. The truth was revealed, and the national public opinion was in an uproar. At this time, Sun Yat-sen returned to Shanghai from Japan. He saw Yuan Shikai's reactionary face clearly, realized that "Yuan must go", and strongly advocated sending troops to attack Yuan and launching a "second revolution". However, among the leaders of the Kuomintang, except for Jiangxi Governor Li Liejun and others who supported Sun Yat-sen, most of Huang Xing and others did not agree to launch a revolution against Yuan, and advocated a legal solution. The differences of opinion between Sun Yat-sen and Huang Xing caused the second revolution to be delayed. On the one hand, Yuan Shikai obstructed the judicial trial of the Song case, and on the other hand reached a large loan of 25 million pounds with the banking group of Britain, France, Germany, Japan, and Russia to supplement military expenses. With the support of imperialism, Yuan Shikai became even more courageous, and successively removed Li Liejun, Hu Hanmin, and Bai Wenwei from their positions as governors. At the same time, he ordered the troops that had been assembled in the vicinity of Jiujiang and Nanjing to launch an attack. Therefore, Li Liejun declared independence in Hukou, Jiangxi Province on July 12, 1913, and issued a speech against Yuan for electrification, and raised troops to ask Yuan. The curtain of the "second revolution" called by Sun Yat-sen was officially opened. On July 15, Huang Xing rushed to Nanjing to respond. Subsequently, Anhui, Shanghai, Guangdong, Fujian, Hunan, and Chongqing, Sichuan Province, also declared independence one after another. However, the leaders of the "second revolution" did not mobilize the broad masses of the people to participate. Lacking a strategic plan, unified command, and strategic coordination, Yuan's army rushed into battle. They were deserted and fought alone, and even most of the Kuomintang legislators were still nostalgic for their seats in Beijing. Under these circumstances, Yuan Shikai relied on the support of imperialism and used superior force to quickly defeat Yuan's army. On August 18, Nanchang fell into enemy hands, and on September 1, Nanjing was captured again. The provinces that had declared independence were revoked one after another in the case of defeat in the war. The "second revolution" failed in less than two months. Sun Yat-sen, who led this revolution, was forced to flee to Japan again, reorganize his forces, and prepare to launch a new revolution. Chen Jiongming, the acting governor of Guangdong, forcibly declared independence, and Tan Yankai, the governor of Hunan, announced his separation from Yuan Shikai
