Scenario of the Rebellion Army Pledge On May 27, 1907, the anti-Qing rebellion army in Huanggang, Chaozhou was attacked by officers and soldiers from both sides, lost to the enemy, and disbanded on May 27. Leaders Chen Yongbo, Yu Chou and more than 200 others retreated to Hong Kong by water. In June 1906, revolutionary and rich Chaozhou businessperson Xu Xueqiu was instructed by Sun Yat-sen to contact anti-Qing activists in Chaozhou, Guangdong, to plan an uprising. Later, Sun Yat-sen instructed him to act together in Houhui, Qin, and Lian, so Xu stayed in Hong Kong to wait for the opportunity. During this period, the preparations for the Huanggang Uprising aroused the vigilance of the officers and soldiers, and the officers and soldiers prepared to search the grocery store opened by Yu Tong, the backbone of the uprising. Chen Yongbo, Yu Chou, and others decided to make a pre-emptive move. On the evening of May 22, they gathered more than a thousand people to rise up, fought fiercely with the officers and soldiers for a night, and occupied Huanggang. On the 23rd, the Rebel Army established a military government and announced the revolutionary purpose of the Alliance in the name of the "Grand Governor of the Guangdong National Army". The number of the Rebel Army increased to more than 5,000 at one time. Xu Xueqiu sent assistants to Huanggang urgently after receiving the report, but a large number of reinforcements from the Qing court had also arrived.
