On this day 181 years ago, on November 12, 1844 (October 3, 1844 in the lunar calendar), Li Lianying, a famous eunuch of the Qing Dynasty, was born. Li Lianying was a famous eunuch in the Qing Dynasty. Born on November 12th, 1844, he was alert, clever and good at speculation. He worked as a seller and shoemaker successively. He was castrated into the palace in Xianfeng Nian (1851-1861 AD), and was favored by Empress Dowager Cixi because he was good at combing his new bun. He was promoted to eunuch chief after An Dehai, the eunuch chief favored by Empress Dowager Cixi, was killed. From then on, under the protection of the Queen Mother of the West, he was like a duck to water, gathered on all sides, had both sides, formed a party for personal gain, and had close relations with Li Hongzhang and other important court officials. Li Lianying entered the palace at the age of nine and left the palace at the age of sixty-one, for a total of fifty-two years. He accompanied the Queen Mother of the West almost all his life and participated in many political events related to the Queen Mother of the West, such as the Xinyou Coup and the 1898 Coup Movement. He was loyal to Empress Dowager Cixi all his life. When the Eight-Nation Alliance attacked Beijing, he fled to Xi'an with Empress Dowager Cixi. His merits and demerits are left aside for the time being, but there is no doubt that he is indeed an important figure in the history of the late Qing Dynasty.
