On October 11, 2001 (August 25, 2001 lunar calendar), the National Standardization Management Committee was established. On October 11, 2001, the National Standardization Management Committee was established in Beijing. Wu Yi, an alternate member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and a State Councilor, congratulated the establishment of the National Standards Committee on behalf of the State Council and made an important speech. She pointed out that by strengthening the work of the National Standards Committee, we should better play the technical basic role of standardization in our country's economic and social development, and promote the improvement of the overall level of quality in our country. At the same time, actively face the challenges brought by joining the WTO, strive to adapt to the new environment, and promote the sustained, rapid and healthy development of our country's economy. Wu Yi pointed out that at present, some products in our country have problems of low grade, poor quality and weak market competitiveness. One of the keys to low quality is low standard level. The premise of improving quality is to improve the standard level first. Without high-level standards, there will be no high-quality products. The National Standards Committee should, in the spirit of reform, strive to solve the problems of too long age, untimely revision and low level of national standards. It is necessary to increase efforts to promote the adoption of international standards and foreign advanced standards, speed up the pace of standard adoption, and resolutely and equivalently adopt those international standards that suit our country's national conditions. At the same time, the National Standards Committee should pay close attention to the formulation and revision of national standards. Mandatory standards for important products that involve health, safety, environmental protection, major national interests, and industrial development in our country should be cleaned up. From the perspective of safeguarding the interests of the people, safeguarding national interests, and promoting industrial development, the revisions should be revised in a timely manner, so that our technical standards can play a role in safeguarding the country and the people. Wu Yi stressed that the National Standards Committee should do a good job in all preparations for joining the WTO. Analyze and study international standards and foreign advanced standards, and promote enterprises to adopt international standards and foreign advanced standards. It is necessary to strengthen the unified management of domestic standardization and fulfill our country's obligations in relevant standards in WTO/TBT and other agreements. It is necessary to adjust the scope of mandatory standards at all levels in accordance with the requirements of WTO/TBT and other agreements, increase the transparency of standardization, and make it more in line with international practices. It is necessary to actively reform the standardization work, actively face the new challenges brought by joining the WTO, and strive to adapt to the new environment.
