August 30, 2008 Sea World Financial Center opened
On August 30, 2008 (July 30, 2008 in the lunar calendar), the Hai World Financial Center opened. The 101-story, 492-meter-high Shanghai World Financial Center officially welcomed guests on August 30, 2008, and the 100-story sightseeing hall and office building with a height of 474 meters will be opened at the same time. The Shanghai World Financial Center is a project invested and constructed by more than 40 companies in Japan and the United States, with a total investment of more than 105 billion yen (more than 1 billion US dollars). The original design is 460 meters high, the project plot area is 30,000 square meters, and the total construction area is 381,600 square meters, which is adjacent to the Jinmao Tower. After construction started in early 1997, due to the impact of the Asian financial crisis, the project was suspended for a time. Work resumed in February 2003. However, due to the fact that both Chinese Taipei and Hong Kong were already building 480-meter-high skyscrapers at that time, which exceeded the original design height of the World Financial Center. Since the original intention of the Japanese side to build the world's tallest building remained unchanged, the original design plan was revised. The revised World Financial Center increased by 7 floors compared with the original, that is, it reached 101 floors above ground and 3 floors underground, with a total floor area of about 377,300 square meters. Construction started in early 1997. The foundation stone was officially laid on August 27, 1997. Construction resumed in February 2003. It was completed on August 29, 2008 and officially opened to the public on August 30.
