Bill Clinton, formerly known as William Jefferson Clinton, was the 42nd President of the United States of America (1993-2001). Standing 1.81 meters tall, he was the first president of the United States to be born after World War II, the second president to be impeached by Congress, and the youngest US president after Theodore Roosevelt and John F. Kennedy, and the only Democratic president to be re-elected after Franklin Roosevelt. Born on August 19, 1946 to the family of a small shopkeeper in Hope, Arkansas. In 1964, he entered Georgetown University in Washington, D.C., specializing in international affairs. In 1977, he served as the Attorney General of Arkansas. In January 1979, at the age of 32, Clinton became one of the youngest governors in the history of the United States when he became the governor of Arkansas. Because of his outstanding achievements during his tenure, Clinton was re-elected as the governor of Arkansas five times, which lasted for 13 years (1979-1992). He also served as the leader of the Democratic Leadership Council from 1990 to 1991. In 1992, he was elected the 42nd president of the United States and was sworn in on January 20, 1993. In 1996, he was re-elected after defeating Republican presidential candidate Robert Dole and independent candidate Ross Perot. The Clinton presidency has been plagued by scandals and investigations. The Clintons' real estate business in Arkansas in the 1970s became the first independent investigation, known as the "Whitewater" incident. In the process of investigating the Whitewater case, in 1998, independent investigators found that Clinton had an affair with White House intern Lewinsky. The House of Representatives filed a motion of impeachment on the grounds of Clinton's false testimony, but the motion of impeachment failed to pass the Senate. During the Clinton presidency, the United States experienced the longest period of economic growth in history, and he was also the most popular president of the modern United States when he left office.
