After the victory of the Anti-Japanese War, he issued a declaration with Ma Xulun and Chen Shutong to prepare for the establishment of the China Association for the Promotion of Democracy, and was elected as the first director. After the founding of New China, he was elected as a representative of the first and second National Cultural Congress and a member of the Shanghai Municipal Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference.
