December 3, 1943: China and Japan fought fiercely in Changde
Eighty-two years ago today, on December 3, 1943 (November 7, 1943 in the lunar calendar), China and Japan fought fiercely in Changde. Japanese artillery bombarded Changde for more than ten days, and the Chinese defenders charged in the artillery fire. On December 3, 1943, the Chinese defenders' positions in Changde were littered with the corpses of the Chinese and Japanese armies. After 15 days and nights of fierce fighting, the 57th Division of the 74th Army guarding Changde ran out of ammunition. The officers and soldiers of the entire division were killed except for a few who broke through. The battle began on August 28. On the same day, the Japanese-Chinese dispatch army headquarters proposed a campaign plan to attack Changde in Hunan and Guangde in Anhui. The purpose was to eliminate the main force of the Chinese army, destroy the base area of China's second theater of operations, and contain the troops that China might send to Yunnan to support the Japanese army's operations in Nanyang. On the 8th, it rebuilt Mount Dudeshan, and then attacked Changde. The 14th Air Force of the United States also cooperated with the Chinese army. The main battle objective of the Japanese army has been completed, and it has been attacked from the sand across the Yangtze River. The supply line was attacked by the Kuomintang army, and it was afraid that the Kuomintang army reinforcements would arrive and be attacked, so it took the initiative to withdraw from Changde, and then the whole line retreated. After the Kuomintang army found that the Japanese army was retreating, it ordered a full-line pursuit, but the Japanese army has retreated to the north bank of the Yangtze River. The Chinese army recovered Changde, and the whole team entered the city. A Chinese soldier who had captured a large number of
