Thirty years ago today, on August 15, 1995 (July 20, 1995 in the lunar calendar), Subramanyan Chandrasekha passed away. Subrahmanyan Chandrasekhar (October 19, 1910-August 15, 1995) was an Indian-American physicist and astrophysicist. Born on October 19, 1910 in Lahore, now Pakistan. He graduated from the University of Madras in India in 1930 and received a doctorate from Trinity College, Cambridge University in the United Kingdom in 1933. From 1930 to 1934, he studied theoretical physics at Trinity College, Cambridge, UK. He taught at the school from 1933 to 1937. He moved to the United States in 1937 and worked at the Yeats Observatory at the University of Chicago. Professor in 1938. He was a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1944 and a Fellow of the American Academy of Sciences in 1955. From 1952 to 1971, he was editor-in-chief of the American Journal of Astrophysics. He has made important contributions to the theory of stellar interior structure, radiative transfer theory of stellar and planetary atmospheres, galactic dynamics, plasma astrophysics, cosmic magnetohydrodynamics, and relativistic astrophysics. In 1983 he won the Nobel Prize in Physics for his work on the structure and evolution of stars. He is a relative of Raman, another Nobel Prize-winning physicist. He calculated the highest mass of a white dwarf star, the Chandrasekhar limit. In 1983, he won the Nobel Prize in Physics for his research on the structure and evolution of stars.
