On November 21, 1949, New China eliminated the brothel system
On this day, 76 years ago, November 21, 1949 (October 2, 1949 in the lunar calendar), New China eliminated the brothel system. The new regime closed down all brothels. These women victims "wiped off their painted face and wore my old clothes" and learned to dance Yangko in the correctional facility. On November 21, 1949, the Second Beijing City People's Congress of People's Representatives from All walks of life passed a resolution on closing brothels, which was ordered by the Beijing City People's Government that night. Luo Ruiqing, the first Minister of Public Security of New China, personally directed the operation. At about 8 p.m., Minister Luo Ruiqing issued an "execution" order. More than 200 motorcycles and more than 50 jeeps carrying hundreds of public security cadres and soldiers drove to various brothels in Beijing. Eight Hutongs, this Hualiu Lane in Beijing for hundreds of years, are surrounded by fully armed soldiers. Public security cadres gathered the brothel owners and solemnly announced to them: From now on, the brothel will be closed. After a night of operations, all 224 brothels in Beijing were closed, all 454 brothel owners and leaders were gathered, and more than 1,290 prostitutes were liberated. Beijing City's resolution to close brothels pointed out: "Brothels are the remnants of the barbaric system of old rulers and exploiters who destroyed women's spirit and flesh and insulted women's personality. They infect syphilis and gonorrhea and endanger national health." It was decided to adopt a review and handling method for bosses, leaders, etc. Those who commit the most heinous crimes will be punished according to law; those who commit minor crimes and are willing to repent are allowed to confess and confess their guilt and be given a new confession. Confiscate the property accumulated by them exploiting prostitutes and use it as relief to prostitutes, so that they will be punished by the law and no longer dare to do evil in the future. For prostitutes, the policy of reforming their minds, treating sexually transmitted diseases, and guiding them in production is adopted. This is to awaken their consciousness, change their minds, and make them healthy people and people who rely on labor to make a living. After the operation, the prostitutes were placed in eight correctional homes for rehabilitation. Former prostitutes at the gate of the Beijing City Women's Production and Rehabilitation Institute abandoned their old jobs and joined the health and epidemic prevention team
