Twenty-eight years ago today, on July 25, 1997 (June 21, 1997), our country established diplomatic relations with the Cook Islands. On the morning of July 25, 1997, Huang Guifang, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People's Republic of China to New Zealand, and Javita Short, High Commissioner of the Cook Islands to New Zealand, signed a joint communique on the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Kuwait on behalf of their respective governments in Wellington, and decided to establish diplomatic relations at the ambassadorial level from July 25, 1997. The Chinese government supports the efforts of the people of the Cook Islands to fully realize the goals of social, economic and cultural development. The Cook Islands government acknowledges the position of the Chinese government that there is only one China in the world and Taiwan is an inalienable part of the territory of the People's Republic of China.
