Thirty years ago today, on September 15, 1995 (August 21, 1995 in the lunar calendar), the Fourth World Conference on Women concluded. President of the General Assembly Chen Muhua, Secretary-General Mongella and others stood on the rostrum of the opening ceremony of the Women's Forum. On September 15, 1995, the 12-day United Nations Fourth World Conference on Women successfully adopted the "Beijing Declaration" and "Action" at the International Conference Center. The curtain came to an end. The World Women's Summit, with the theme of "Action for Equality, Development and Peace" and the sub-theme of "Education, Health, and Employment", held a total of 16 plenary meetings. The main committees and working groups of the conference held intensive work and consultations at the same time. Representatives from 197 countries and regions, as well as representatives of international organizations and non-governmental organizations, held a heated debate on issues such as eradicating poverty, stopping war, stopping violence against women, and eliminating inequality between men and women in an atmosphere of equality and pragmatism, and achieved a relatively consistent opinion. The Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action adopted at the conference urged governments of all countries to make political commitments and use actions to eliminate all discrimination against women and achieve the noble goals of equality, development and peace. The NGO Women's Forum held in Huairou, the Beijing Scenic Area, also achieved a complete success as an auxiliary meeting of the Fourth World Conference on Women. A total of 17,600 people attended the World Conference on Women, and more than 30,000 people participated in the NGO Women's Forum. At the plenary meeting held this morning, Peruvian President Fujimori and Norway Prime Minister Brundtland made warm speeches as guests of the World Conference. They promised to conscientiously implement the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action in their own countries. Statements were also made by representatives of the non-governmental organization Youth Federation and the President of the World Bank. After the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action were adopted at this afternoon's plenary meeting, representatives from more than 30 countries including Peru, Iraq and Oman spoke one after another. Some countries expressed their views on the "Platform for Action". Reservations to a few provisions such as women's childbirth. Appendix: The first World Conference on Women was held in Mexico from June 19 to July 2, 1975. More than 1800 representatives from 133 countries participated, and about 5000 participants in the NGO Forum held concurrently with the conference. The meeting adopted the Mexico Declaration and the World Plan of Action. The Second World Conference on Women was held in Copenhagen, the capital of Denmark, from July 14 to 31, 1980. More than 2000 representatives from 145 Member States of the United Nations and relevant organizations and agencies of the United Nations system attended the meeting. The NGO Forum was attended by 8000 people. Kang Keqing, Chairman of the All-China Women's Federation of China, led a China government delegation to attend the meeting. The meeting adopted the "Plan of Action for the Second Half of the United Nations Decade for Women". The Third World Conference on Women was held in Nairobi, the capital of Kenya, from July 13 to 26, 1985. About 6000 people from 157 United Nations Member States and representatives of the United Nations, relevant intergovernmental and non-governmental organizations attended the meeting. About 15000 people attended the NGO Forum. China State Councilor Chen Muhua led a China government delegation to attend the meeting. The meeting adopted the Nairobi Strategy.
