On this day 88 years ago, on August 12, 1937 (July 7, 1937 in the lunar calendar), Chiang Kai-shek was appointed Grand Marshal of the Navy, Land and Air Force. The Nationalist government held the Supreme National Defense Conference in Nanjing to discuss the plan of resisting Japan. The middle party was Chiang Kai-shek.
