He died in Beijing at 10:57 pm on August 4, 2010, at the age of 90. In 1945, he graduated from the Department of Chinese Literature at Fu Jen Catholic University in Peking. Mr. Gu Sui, a master of Chinese studies and an expert in ancient literature, once spoke highly of Guo Yuheng in his diary: "Japanese and English have a foundation, and he studies hard and thinks deeply. He is a rare talent among Fujen University alumni. After the founding of New China, Guo Yuheng served as a lecturer at Furen University, associate professor and professor, deputy director of the Chinese Department, deputy director of the Institute of Ancient Books at Beijing Normal University, and vice president of the first and second Beijing City Literature and Art Society. 1977 was the first year that the college entrance examination was resumed after the end of the Cultural Revolution. Professor Guo Yuheng wrote the question for the college entrance examination essay "I have been fighting for this year" in Beijing City. In terms of academic research, Guo Yuheng called himself "a scholar all his life and obeying Lu Xun." He made outstanding contributions to prose research and was always admired by the academic community. With his own efforts, he spent 19 years completing the three major volumes of "A History of China Prose" with 1.6 million words, which academic circles claim filled the gap in the study of the history of China literature.
